Description
Requested by the Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra, Sinfonietta for Strings is for high-school age players. The first movement is in sonata form, with a danceable first theme group, a lyrical second theme area, a full development, and an unusual recapitulation. The second movement gives the spotlight to the basses, while smaller members of the string family create a placid texture, full of extended techniques. The third movement embraces twentieth-century compositional techniques and revisits themes from both earlier movements before ending on a high note.
MIDI renditions of the first and third movements are available upon request.
